It is composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago—long before Death Valley came into existence. Duration: 30 minutes Stop At: Badwater Rd. 19 mi south of Furnace Creek, Death Valley National Park, CA 92328 Badwater Basin is an endorheic basin in Death Valley National Park, Death Valley, Inyo County, California, noted as the lowest point in North America and the United States, with a depth of 282 ft (86 m) below sea level. Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States, is only 84.6 miles (136 km) to the northwest. The drive takes you through canyons and past mountains, many of which are covered in fantastic colors.
