Description

Route 66, also known as 'The Mother Highway,' does not pass directly through Las Vegas, but you can incorporate it into a road trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to experience part of this historic route. The most common way to do this is to start in Las Vegas and head south, connecting with Route 66 in the Barstow, California region, where the historic highway comes to life. From Las Vegas, you would head south on I-15, crossing the Mojave Desert, a vast, arid region that offers stunning landscapes and a certain evocative isolation. Upon arriving in Barstow, you can visit the Route 66 Museum, which celebrates the history and culture of this iconic highway that was once the main route from Chicago to Santa Monica. Following Route 66 from Barstow, you can enjoy a trip full of nostalgia, passing through small towns that prospered during the highway's golden age, such as Victorville and San Bernardino. These areas offer plenty of opportunities to see vintage motels, old gas stations, and neon signs that have survived the test of time. Continuing west, Route 66 will take you directly through the Los Angeles metropolitan area, concluding at the route's mythical end in Santa Monica, if you decide to continue to the Pacific Ocean. Here, the Santa Monica Pier and its famous 'End of the Trail' sign serve as a picturesque end to the trip. This trip not only offers you the experience of driving along some sections of the legendary Route 66, but also allows you to explore the transformation of the landscape from the deserts of Nevada and California to the vibrant urbanity of Los Angeles, all while passing through some of the most emblematic and culturally rich spaces on the west coast of the United States.
